Just like its name, Troublesome Night is related to the supernatural.
Using a younger cast, naturally the film hopes to have a fresh feeling. The
story is about this group of young people who know nothing about death and
begins when they were camping in the countryside......
Before the production of the film began, during production meetings,
producer Nam Yin ordered the cast members not to wear red, not even red
underwear, because "that stuff"'s favorite color is red. But whether it was
coincidental or accidental, that day when the scenes of the young guys being
possessed was shot, the clothing the costume director arranged for Koo Tin
Lok, Chu Wing Tong, and Ting Chi Chun were all red, especially Ting Chi Chun's
jacket which was all red.
Is there any resolution?
Ting Chi Chun said, "Mr. Nam said, before work pray and burn more
incense; after work the costume must be removed before leaving the set, then
nothing would happen. Because we respect 'that stuff', and it would only
follow the clothes and not people."
Whether 'that stuff' would follow them is unknown, because at the time
the sun was bright and high. No one would know what would happen during the
night shoot, but they knew for sure they attracted a pile of drooling
mosquitoes, which was especially attracted to Choi Siu Fun, Mak Ka Kei and
Bak Ka Sin.
"We are prepared," Siu Fun and Mak Ka Kei said, "we all got bug
sprays in our bags."
Near the location there were plenty of grave sites, in fact two scenes
actually used them as backdrops. Coincidentally Chu Wing Tong is of Hakka
background, his grandmother was once buried not far from the location. When
he was little he would visit her grave and later the grave was moved elsewhere.
Recently he went there less and didn't expect the film would bring him back. This film was divided between three directors with three stories. The
cast would still be the same people; Yau Lai To besides directing one of the
stories is also responsible for tying the three stories together. He is also
the cinematographer.
Yau Lai To has been with Mr. Nam from All of a Sudden (Gaing Bin) to
Walk In (Duet Si) to Troublesome Nights (Yum Yeung Lo). It would seem Yau
Lai To has become Mr. Nam's official director, but he said, "Before when I
made movies with Sau Gor (Danny Lee Sau Yin), people said then too I was his
official director. Actually, whoever has the appropriate project I would go
with whoever, there is no official."
Out of the three stories, there is a film within a film titled Ching
Yeuk Yau Ching (Lit: Thousand Medicine has a container). Hey, that title
sounds familiar! No worry, it is a direct satire, Mr. Nam even directly
said, "I use Chi Hung (Ng Chi Hung) to play Andy Lau Tak Wa's character,
Siu Sin (Ng Sin Lin) would be played by Yuen King Tan. Chi Hung even has
the nose bleed to match, whenever scene A Moment of Romance (Tin Yeuk Yau
Ching) has we got, the church, the motorcycle, everything."
How would Johnny To Kei Fung react?
